March 14 letter from our President regarding COVID-19

Dear MEA Members,

Marlborough Public Schools will be closed from March 16-27. There may be a need to extend the closing more than two weeks.

The MEA has been in regular communication with the Superintendent throughout the period up to the decision to close. We continued to make our members a priority in these unknown and uncertain times.

There will be a need for the MEA and the district to bargain over some repercussions of this unprecedented school closure and remote learning.

The last day of the 2019/2020 school year will now be June 23. We will not be expected to work beyond this date. We will receive our regular salaries as negotiated in the CBA for the 19/20 school year.

In the meantime, please follow all the guidelines distributed through Marlborough Public Schools. Please do not go to school if you are sick or have a fever. The district has formulated a plan for students to receive the work that the MEA members worked so diligently to prepare in the event of this event. The district will also be distributing breakfast and lunch to our students by keeping the bus routes running to deliver meals.

We are all in this together, and there is a need to be flexible and cooperate in the best interests of our colleagues and students. There are many uncertainties and never before situations arising from the need to stem the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to update you.

Stay healthy, safe and take care of yourselves and those around you.
