MEA Dues

Dear Members,
I am writing today to discuss the financial health of the MEA. This year the MEA is running a deficit. The deficit is small and we have had the ability to rely on excess funds to remain solvent. However, this can not be sustained long-term. Our obligations to MTA and NEA have increased in recent years. The MEA has worked very hard this year to control costs and avoid unnecessary spending. Please find below a breakdown of MEA obligations describing how your dues are spent. This has been put together by our treasurer, Heather Risley. It also details our proposal to raise dues by an incremental amount. This increase would allow the MEA to remain solvent, while also helping to avoid another increase for several years to come. Dues increases need to be approved by the MEA executive board. We wanted to inform you of our plan, and to solicit any feedback the membership may have. If you have comments or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your building rep, or any of the MEA officers. Thank you for your time and solidarity.

Regards,
Elton
